In the Malwa region, it is situated on the eastern bank of the Shipra River. Earlier, it was known as Ujjayini. It is one of the ancient and holiest cities in Ujjain and is also one of the famous tourist destinations in Madhya Pradesh. Here, you will see Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, one of Lord Shiva’s twelve jyotirlingas. 1. GADHKALIKA TEMPLE
During the Mahabharata period, this temple was established, later King Harshavardhana renovated this temple, and King of Gwalior rebuilt this temple during the state period. During Navratri, you will see a huge fair in this temple.
2. MAHAKALESHWAR TEMPLE
This temple was situated on the banks of Rudra Sagar Lake. You can visit this temple from 4 am to 11 pm. Here you can see Bhasma Aarti which takes place at 4 am and to see this aarti you have to follow many strict rules. Here you will see a fair during Mahashivratri. This temple complex is influenced by the Maratha, and Chalukya styles of architecture. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Don’t miss a single chance to visit this Devine place. Mahakaleshwar temple is one of Ujjain’s best places to visit. This temple is also one of the most famous temples in India.
3. KAL BHAIRAV TEMPLE
Kal Bhairav is one of the fiercest forms of Lord Shiva. Here you will see hundreds of devotees and sadhus around the temple premises. You should visit this amazing temple when you visit Ujjain.
4. GOPAL MANDIR
An interesting fact about this temple is Ghazni stole the famous door from Somnath Temple, it has been installed here. This temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna and in this temple idol of Lord Krishna is 2 feet high. Idol is completely studded in gold and silver ornaments and rests on a silver-plated altar.
5. VIKRAM KIRTI TEMPLE MUSEUM
This museum shows the Maurya era and it was built in the memory of King Vikramaditya. It was built in 1965. You can visit this amazing museum from 5 am to 7 pm.
6. SHANI TEMPLE
It is the first Navgraha Temple in India. This temple was 2000 years old. The amazing fact about this temple is, that it is the only temple in the world where Lord Shani is revered as Lord Shiva.
7. MEGHDOOT RESORT WATER PARK AND CLUB

8. KALIADEH PALACE
In 1458 AD, it was constructed. It was situated on an island. Mughal Emperor Akbar and Jahangir visited this grand monument but it was demolished by the Pindaris, then Madhavrao Scindia noticed its inner beauty and decided to restore this monument. You can visit this beautiful fort from 9 am to 6 pm.
9. BHARTRIHARI CAVES
Here, the brother of Vikramaditya, Bhartrihari lived by giving up the luxurious lifestyle. It is situated on the banks of the Shipra River and is located near Gadhkalika Temple. This historical place in Ujjain is one best places to visit.
10. CHAUBIS KHAMBA TEMPLE
It was built in the 9th or 10th century. On the entrance door, you will see the images of the guardian deities of the Temple. You can call this temple Twenty Four Pillars Temple.
11. GOMTI KUND
This temple is surrounded by Sandipani Ashram. It is believed that Lord Krishna made this Kund by mixing holy waters from all over the world so that his Guru Sandipani would not have to travel so far. Now for the entire Ashram, this huge kund is the single source of water supply. Gomti Kund is one of the most interesting places in Ujjain to travel for travelers.
12. BIG GANESHJI TEMPLE
This temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, in this temple, you will see the biggest idol of Lord Ganesha. It is situated near the Mahakaleshwar Temple. Here you will also see Panchmukhi Hanuman Dwar and you can take the blessings of Lord Hanuman.
